Prof. Dipl.-Des. Katja Thoring
Katja Thoring is teaching 2- and 3-dimensional Design Foundations and Experimental Design as a full professor at the Dessau Department of Design of Anhalt University of Applied Sciences, Germany. Additionally, she has been teaching Design Thinking at the HPI School of Design Thinking in Potsdam for more than 5 years. Since 2014 she is also Visiting Researcher at TU Delft.
Trained as an Industrial Designer (she studied at the University of the Arts in Berlin and the California College of Arts in San Francisco) she is an expert in interior and furniture concepts. Her research focuses on the impact of the physical environment (space, architecture, furniture) on the creative work processes of design students and practitioners.
Besides working as a full professor in Dessau, Katja runs a company for creativity and innovation consulting (Kreativismen), and more recently she also consults companies with designing their creative work environments.
Katja Thoring is a member of the German Society for Design Theory and Research (DGTF), the Design Research Society (DRS), and the Design Society. She regularly publishes her research at scientific conferences and was an invited speaker at numerous international events (e.g. TYPO Berlin 2006, BBDT Berlin-Brandenburg Direktmarketing-Tag 2007, KNAW Amsterdam 2014, PerceptionLab Symposium 2015, etc.).
